Top 10 family destinations in Europe

London family destinations

This is not a ranking, so read it from top to bottom, from the center to the bottom or take it from the top and stop halfway, as you wish. We have selected ten of the best family destinations based on our experience, the services offered to the whole family including Mom and Dad, and the overall tourist quality of the destination.

Amazing Bled and Bohinj in Slovenia

The tranquility of the lake in the mountains combined with a range of services such as water parks and activities for adults and children, which allow you to spend active or relaxing holidays according to your needs. Mini river rafting for the whole family, cycling, and hiking in nature. All in a national park, from three days upwards.

Bled lake for families

The beauty of the Bled lake

Our trip to Bled in this post: In Bled there is a family hotel we are fond of; we stayed with the children a couple of times and objectively we always felt good, especially for the nearby water park included in the price. It is the Hotel Savica and this is the page on booking.com. If you want a top experience in Bled, there is also the Garden Village with its amazing tree houses!

Bavaria is great for kids

Bavaria, welcome to the children’s village. Everyone here has at least three, among lakes and mountains, meadows full of cows and small characteristic villages where you can taste the delicious slices of cake or beer, but only for dad and mom. You will find the sense of family and of living together simple and genuine things. Don’t forget the Legoland, Freizeitpark, Ravensburger Park and Playmobil Fun-Park in Nuremberg. One week recommended. In Bavaria, the Jugendherbergen family hostel network is an accommodation with a high level of service and hospitality. The Nuremberg hostel is located in the castle district and is very well maintained, we slept in the tower on the eleventh floor!

Valencia is full of fun

Valencia, a city full of family attractions. The Bioparc, the Oceanographic, the Science Museum, the beach and the Albufera Park, the Turia Gardens. It is impossible to get bored in Valencia, three days at least to enjoy the city in depth. For a stay in the city center, we were advised by the local tourist board, the Hotel Ad Hoc Carmen.

Oceanografic family destinations

Ibiza, not only nightclubs

Ibiza, the island that you have always imagined as a unique disco is also a top destination for families. Family-friendly hotels, sandy beaches and hidden coves, a fortress worthy of big cities, take your rental car and get to know the island properly, recommended at least a week. Sleep in Santa Eularia at Casa Luis  perfect in our holiday experience on the island.

Baden Wuerttemberg and the magic Black Forest

Baden Wuerttemberg and the Black Forest, where three countries – France, Germany, and Switzerland – meet, from Freiburg, the city of the streams, to Lake Constance, the tourist facilities are populated by children. The Black Forest is something lush and spectacular; get involved in the many activities that interest the whole family and don’t forget to visit Europa Park. At least one week. Here we stayed at the Camping Kirchzarten, it also has very nice mobile homes and has a large heated swimming pool. Alternatively, in Freiburg, there is the family hostel Jugendherberge.

More than a park: Disneyland Paris

Disneyland Paris, more than an amusement park – it’s the world of fairy tales, here, if you haven’t already, you come back to be a child, the park is huge and the whole resort is something special, fun is a must and a smile will soon appear on your lips even for the most serious ones. A single day is not enough and beware of the budget! To save something you can sleep outside the park as we did, in this hotel we felt good and we did not spend a capital: the  Bussy Saint Georges Campanile.

More London for everyone

London, which was unexpected as a destination for children, was also spectacular for a family trip. From the simple double-decker tour to the numerous interactive and free museums such as the British Museum or the Natural History, it is a great capital that can be appreciated by young visitors. In London, we slept in different places every time but at the Premier Inn Tower Bridge, we had a great time!

Parks with large green lawns for rest and play, multi-story toy shops, shows and street entertainment. Try it for yourself, minimum three days. On this destination, we suggest the Lonely Planet guide “Lonely Planet Pocket London” at just over 7 Euros or the classic London Lonely Planet on Amazon at about 19 Euros. Read also our article on how to sleep with children in budget hotels in London.

Family fun in the Italian Dolomites

Andalo, Trentino, Italy. A true paradise for the family, a place surrounded by greenery and nature, the real mountain with the alpine huts and the valley paths suitable for strollers. Virtually every hotel provides services for the family, an excellent starting point for exploring the surroundings, to see bears, wolves or castles of Trentino. A week is a right time. To sleep, the Abete Bianco Hotel is a good compromise between price and quality of welcome.

Scotland with kids

Scotland can really be a fascinating journey even with kids in tow. The convenience of the car tour allows you to combine exciting visits to the castles with children’s dormitories on the transfer routes. There’s never a shortage of space for the game, a fascinating bagpipe playing, a fun place like Loch Ness, with a museum about the monster, a pub where you can eat amazing French fries (not in the evening). Recommended for 7 to 10 days in our family destinations list.

Malta: the rock

We finish our list of family destinations with Malta. It is an island and therefore involves the sea. That sea is animated by a very long season with very little rain, beaches for children or rocky coast for the more adventurous, lots of alleys, all year round, events and activities for the whole family, playgrounds everywhere, hotels with swimming pools and all-inclusive service. Recommended for 5 to 7 days. Read this post as well and our tips on where to sleep.

The best destinations but not all the best

These are our best family destinations, but we are always on the move and the list can change, thanks to your contribution! In fact we love Prague as weel. Write, post, tweet… we’re waiting for your advice. Some destinations are reachable quite easily by car, for others the plane is definitely the best choice, in case you can rent a car at your destination. If you are in doubt about traveling with children by plane here you will find an excellent guide on how to prepare and better face the flight, maybe you will also find an offer to leave as soon as possible with the whole family. If you are looking for more information about these destinations, you can find them here. Happy journey!
